Small Center STEM Library
This design-build studio, led by the Albert and Tina Small Center for Collaborative Design, worked with community partner Stem Library Lab, a lending library that provides teachers and students with access to STEM-related equipment, as well as coaching.
The studio’s students and faculty transformed the nonprofit’s teacher lounge, entrance, and library spaces at its new location off the I-10 Service Road in Metairie. Over the past three years, the library has grown from 700 square feet inside a classroom at a charter school to a new 12,000 square foot building with a staff of four.
The project’s final design includes dynamic rope canopy details, a large front desk with CNC milled patterning, booth seating with privacy screens, work room storage, and a two-story display shelf at the entrance to highlight the range of materials offered at the library.
