Second Year Core Studio for Design
Experimental Typography
Typography is a fundamental aspect of graphic design, and this advanced studio will challenge students to push the boundaries of type beyond convention. The course will examine visual language in historical and contemporary social contexts, to analyze critical and conceptual meaning and impact. Through workshops and demos, formal and informal critique, and a rigorous iterative process, each student will develop an original font design for functional use. Students will then apply their custom letterforms in 2D, 3D, virtual 3D, and time-based media.
In the realm of design, typography plays a crucial role in conveying messages and emotions. In Design Studio III, we delve into the world of Experimental Typography, where conventional rules are questioned, and creativity knows no bounds. This project aims to provide you with an opportunity to apply your knowledge, experiment with new ideas, and challenge the traditional norms of type design.
