Discipline: Real Estate Development
Monique Brown
Master of Sustainable Real Estate Development
Native New Orleanian Monique Brown grew up in New Orleans East, and currently resides in Gentilly. Monique has built a career in Public Health as a Health Equity Warrior, working with and for communities to bring better access to determinants of health, including proper housing. She is a Senior Fellow with the Atlantic Fellows for Health Equity, a board member with the Association for Community Design, and an active member of the Urban Land Institute. She balances these roles with being a wife and mother of 3.
Monique chose the MSRED Graduate program because of her interest in real estate development, supplemented by her view that sustainability is a public health issue. She was drawn to Tulane’s small class sizes, which allow for an intimate learning environment where she can develop close relationships with her instructors and peers.
“MSRED provides me the opportunity to study the inner workings of real estate development, meet a few of the 'players,' and allows me to apply a health equity lens to what I take away.”
With this degree, Monique hopes to add her name to the short list of Black female real estate developers, working to develop sustainable, affordable housing in disinvested neighborhoods that will improve health outcomes for residents. She also hopes to make a dent in the racial wealth gap by partnering and implementing programming aimed to increase homeownership for people of color.
