Analiese De Saw
Master of Architecture 3.5
Analiese De Saw grew up outside of Princeton, NJ in a multi-racial, multi-generational household. She earned her BA in Art History and Film from Rutgers University. For the last eight years, Analiese has specialized in arts education, primarily working with children with special needs in non-traditional settings. Her passions lie in youth justice and equality in education. Outside of teaching, she is a local artist and a multi-instrumentalist in two New Orleans bands.
Analiese’s interest in pursuing the M.Arch program at Tulane is twofold. First, she wants to remain local and give back to the children in the community who she has come to know and love over the past six years. Second, the mission of The Small Center resonates with her desire to give back to the locals in New Orleans in a collaborative, creative, and uplifting way.
Analiese hopes to use her degree to be an advocate for children and underrepresented communities in the design process. Her experience as a teacher offers her a nuanced perspective of how schools could be designed to better serve their populations. Ultimately, she hopes to use her degree to facilitate the growth of future generations of architects and designers.
“I would like to create spaces that are intentional about design and its effects on young people, teachers, and people with special needs.”
Starting her graduate semester in Summer 2022 with a cohort of seven people, Analiese began appreciating several different aspects of the program. She found the professor, Andrea Bardon de Tena, to be extremely passionate about architecture and encouraging her students through providing thoughtful feedback. The class has met faculty, toured local firms, and learned about different architects from around the world.
