Marguerite Roberts, MPS (’16), is an art and architecture enthusiast with a passion for building preservation. Since 2018, she has been working as the Senior Building Inspector for the Vieux Carré Commission (VCC).

Her responsibilities include inspecting ongoing exterior renovation projects and conducting routine maintenance inspections for properties in the French Quarter. Guided by the VCC Design Guidelines mandated by the Louisiana State Constitution and City Charter/City Code, Marguerite plays a vital role in protecting the architectural character of New Orleans' oldest neighborhood.

Despite limited resources, the VCC is dedicated to enforcing preservation efforts in the French Quarter, ensuring the integrity of the community and its cultural heritage for future generations. Marguerite's role as the first Senior VCC Building Inspector since 1936 demonstrates her commitment to this cause. She spends considerable time in the French Quarter, assisting property owners with violations and ongoing projects while capturing updated photographs for the VCC's records. Marguerite is devoted to helping property owners understand and adhere to the VCC Guidelines, providing guidance throughout the violation and permitting process. She is particularly excited about the planned renovation of the St. Louis Cathedral, a project in its early stages.

Marguerite's educational background, having completed the MPS program at Tulane, and her deep family roots in New Orleans further fuel her dedication to preserving and maintaining the French Quarter as a thriving neighborhood for its residents and property owners. In 2016, Marguerite interned with the New Orleans' Historic District Landmarks Commission, where she conducted an extensive survey and study of the Warehouse District's built environment as part of her practicum. Her exceptional work earned her an award from the Tulane School of Architecture. Beyond her professional pursuits, Marguerite enjoys expressing her creativity through photography, painting, and cherishing moments spent with her loved ones.
