Cassie Kadish's (B.Arch '25) work from the Gulf Climate Futures Studio has been selected for the 2025 Student Data Visualization contest hosted by the Tulane University Libraries (TUL) and the Connolly Alexander Institute for Data Science (CAIDS). Her visualization, "What is the Ike Dike Actually Protecting?" will be displayed in the lobby of the Howard-Tilton Memorial Library (HTML) from February 11th through February 14th.

The Ike Dike is a proposed 17-mile long, $57 billion dollar storm surge barrier that is slated for construction on Galveston Island and the Bolivar Peninsula. If constructed, it will be one of the world’s most expensive infrastructure projects. A large percentage of the cost would be paid by local taxpayers, as the project is advertised to “protect the entire Houston-Galveston region” from hurricane storm surges.

The Student Data Visualization Gallery Walk is hosted in the lobby of Howard-Tilton Memorial Library from February 11-14, 2025, in celebration of Love Data Week 2025. The best graduate and undergraduate visualization creators will receive $250 courtesy of the Connolly Alexander Institute for Data Science. Check out each submission here. Visualization and full descriptions can be found by clicking on the name of the visualization. Vote for your favorite submission here: Gallery Voting Poll
