Emilie Taylor Welty, Favrot III Associate Professor of Architecture and Director of Architecture, was recently recognized in the Forbes 2025 America’s Best-in-State Residential Architects for work by her New Orleans-based private practice, Colectivo.
Taylor Welty, who also serves as Design-Build Manager for the Albert and Tina Small Center for Collaborative Design and is an alumna (M.Arch *08), co-founded Colectivo with her husband and alumnus Seth Welty (M.Arch '06). Taylor Welty and Colectivo have also received significant recognition for her own home's sustainable design, including a feature on the cover of Dwell Magazine (pictured above). Taylor Welty has received numerous other awards and honors for her work in residential, commercial, small scale, and other designs.
This is Forbes's second national top-firms list, encompassing a total of 400 architecture practices from all 50 states plus the District of Columbia. In its inaugural list, Tulane School of Architecture and Built Environment's Ammar Eloueini, Professor of Architecture, was also recognized in the recent Forbes list because of his previous selection for the Forbes Top 200 Residential Architects list.
Many Tulane alumni have also been acknowledged by the Forbes Best-in-State Residential Architects List, including:
Jacob Brillhart (M.Arch '99) of Brillhart Architecture in Florida
Ellen Hatton (M.Arch '97) of Barnes Vanze Architects in Washington, D.C.
David Thompson (M.Arch '96, Dean's Advisory Council member) of Assembledge+ in California
Mac Walcott (M.Arch ’80) of Walcott Adams Verneuille Architecture & Interiors in Alabama
