TuSABE 2026-2027 Travel Fellowships

Deadline: Sunday, November 8, 2026 at 11:59pm
Travel Fellowship Submission Form
The Tulane School of Architecture and Built Environment (TuSABE) annually offers over $45,000 to support student travel and research. This research travel typically takes place during the summer break and allows students to expand their education by funding location-based independent research projects. Recent fellowship recipients have traveled around the world to research design and built environment topics in cities such as Cairo, Nairobi, Barcelona, Tokyo, Krakow, and more.
Although most of the fellowships are not constrained to specific topics, some do have specific requirements. If you are applying for a specific fellowship(s), please indicate that in your proposal. For the list of available fellowships and their eligibility and criteria click here.
Funding amounts will be based on the proposed budget and on the recommendation of the faculty committee. Single students may request up to $4,000 in their proposals and group projects may request up to $6,000. All funds must be spent and travel completed before a student’s graduation date.
All recipients will be required to present their research findings and submit a research report via an all-school symposium as part of the 2027-2028 lecture series, and/or directly to the award’s sponsors.
Note: The School will not fund travel to countries on the U.S. State Department’s Travel Advisory List that are designated as “Level 3: Reconsider Travel” or “Level 4: Do Not Travel” (learn more at travel.state.gov). Students who receive grant funding for international travel must register with TU Global prior to traveling.
Deadline to submit proposals: Sunday, November 8, 2026, at 11:59pm
Submit proposals and all required materials below.
Recipients will be notified of next steps during the week of December 7, 2026, via email.
PROPOSAL EVALUATION CRITERIA
Submissions will be reviewed by a faculty and staff committee through an anonymous process. Successful proposals will support the potential for discovery and exploration within the applicant’s critical thought process that moves beyond personal experience. Proposals will be evaluated on clarity of ideas, the framing of a research agenda, and identifiable outcomes. The research agenda should demonstrate an educational trajectory and elaborate on potential contributions to architecture, design, sustainable urbanism, real estate, landscape architecture and/or historic preservation. Proposals should include measurements of success, and methods of examining data to improve and/or build upon research. Once selected, recipients of Travel Fellowships will be encouraged to enlist the aid of a Faculty Advisor to guide them through the process of fine-tuning their research and plans.
