Join alumnus Michael Bell (M.Arch *25) for a presentation about the John Belle Travel Fellowship, which he received in 2025. The John Belle Travel Fellowship is organized by the Beyer Blinder Belle Foundation.

PRESENTATION

Michael’s proposed study will document adaptive reuse strategies at ruin sites on four Baltic islands: Gotland, Christiansø, Bornholm, and Rügen. These islands were selected due to their historic and spatial significance to the southern Baltic, and the respective ruins have contributed substantially to their community landscapes. Approaches to be examined include ruin stabilization, adaptive re-use, historic continuity, and historic discontinuit

FELLOWSHIP

The John Belle Travel Fellowship is an annual award for a single graduate student in Architecture, Historic Preservation, and/or Urban Design; it centers on “understanding of the public realm in existing cities through travel and research, and how the knowledge gained might be applied to contemporary urban needs, architecture and historic preservation challenges.” Interested in applying? Applications for the 2026 Fellowship are now open, February 9. is the submission deadline. Eligible graduate students from participating schools must be endorsed by the dean or equivalent head of their graduate program to apply. There is a maximum of 4 applicants per school.
