This lecture is open to the public.

This lecture "The Craft of Care" is presented by Carmen Trudell, RA, Professor - Architecture Department at California Polytechnic State University . The lecture is supported by the Walter Wisznia Memorial Lectureship.

Carmen’s recent research is in biobased materials and the circular economy. The circular economy is a holistic approach to sustainability with the potential to contain resource use within planetary boundaries while simultaneously increasing economic benefits. This presentation will share two visualization tools that Carmen, along with undergraduate student research assistants Alejo Favero, Ameya Dalal, and Zoe Klement, have developed to reframe the way that we see architectural materials. This team has also researched over 25 case study projects that illustrate the values of the circular economy. A select number of inspiring case studies will be presented. As Carmen is primarily a teacher, she will also share recent pedagogy related to circularity and embodied carbon in design studios and technical courses.
