Adrianne Steichen (M.Arch '01), a Principal at PYATOK Architecture + Urban Design in Oakland, California, specializes in permanent supportive housing, walkable urban design, participatory design, and sustainable and resilience strategies for urban development. 

She brings her expertise to her work with faith-based and community-based organizations, market-rate, and non-profit developers of multifamily communities throughout the Bay Area.

Adrianne’s recent award-winning projects include Wilton Court Apartments, a 59-unit affordable housing development in Palo Alto, California, with units designed for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities; The Laureate, a 24-unit market-rate development designed for undergraduate students in Berkeley, California; and St. Paul’s Commons, a project including 45 units of affordable supportive housing and a ground floor drop-in and community center, developed by RCD Housing and St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Walnut Creek, California. 

Adrianne is the current co-chair of the TuSA Alumni Council and an Ex-Officio representative for the school to the Tulane Alumni Association. She is also currently the 2023 Vice Chair and 2024 Chair-Elect of the AIA’s Housing & Community Development Knowledge Community Advisory Group. In 2020, Adrianne served as President of the AIA San Francisco Chapter, and in 2015, the AIA recognized her as a Young Architect of the Year.  

Most recently, in June 2023, Adrianne was a Non-Government Advisor to the official US State Department delegation with HUD at the Second Assembly of the UN Habitat in Nairobi, Kenya. The focus of the Assembly was the localization of the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals, specifically SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities. Prior to the conference, the NGAs provided line item review of resolutions proposed by Member States to the Assembly, including the right to adequate affordable housing; during the conference, NGAs participated in side event presentations and conversations related to SDG 11.
