Julia Hustwit

Adjunct Lecturer for Real Estate Development

Julia Hustwit is an architect, nonprofit executive, and national expert in climate change, affordable housing, and community development. She has served as a senior advisor and a director of special initiatives under three US Presidents at the US Department of Housing & Urban Development and the US Department of Energy in addition to having supported the transition teams of President Joe Biden and NYC Mayor Eric Adams. Julia previously served as Director of Codes & Policy at the New Buildings Institute, Director of the Better Buildings Challenge Multifamily Sector, and policy advisor with Clean Energy for America and Resilience 21. Julia also designs, develops, researches, writes, and advises as an independent professional. She received her Bachelor’s Degree in Architecture & Environmental Policy from Carnegie Mellon University and her Master’s Degree in International Development from the University of Pittsburgh. She lives and works in Washington, DC with her partner and son.
