Austin Lightle

Visiting Assistant Professor

Austin is an architectural designer and a freelance digital artist. Austin received a Bachelor of Science in Architecture from The Ohio State University in 2019. After graduating, he spent over a year working at Pelli Clarke & Partners as a designer. At Pelli, he worked on projects in North America, Asia, Europe, and South America. He received a Master of Architecture II from the Southern California Institute of Architecture in 2022. After graduating he worked as a designer for 64North Architects and HansonLA Architects. Austin has been a faculty at Sci-Arc since the fall of 2022. At Sci-Arc he has taught a vertical studio, a robotics seminar, and an undergrad thesis with Peter Testa.

Austin's research explores the complex intersection of equity, inclusion, and environmental injustice through the interfaces we use and the language we have developed in order to standardize the practice of architecture.

Austin further explores the intersection of architecture and animation through his work as a digital artist. His work has bee exhibited at the A+D Museum, Chase Public, and the Sci Arc Gallery; as well as professional work for the Cleveland Cavaliers. 

At The Ohio State University, Austin received his Bachelor of Science in Architecture, receiving architectural honors, a research distinction in honors, and graduated Summa Cum Laude. Austin received his Masters of Architecture II from the Southern California Institute of Architecture, graduating Summa Cum Laude, and received the AIA award for academic excellence. His thesis, Common Objects, was awarded the Peer Prize and the Merit Prize.
