Austin Hogans
Adjunct Lecturer in Architecture
Austin Hogans is an Artist, Educator, and Architectural Designer in New Orleans. Born and raised in Columbus Ohio, Austin became interested in the built environment as a child through exploring the different neighborhoods in her city. Typically, these were low-income neighborhoods where her parents grew up.She went on to pursue architecture at Miami University and participated in the Over-The-Rhine Design-Build program where she explored Urban Design and Gentrification. While attending Miami University she became interested in environmental sustainability through Passive House Design while Studying abroad in Malta. In Graduate school she participated in the UrbanBuild program at Tulane University where she gained knowledge in single family residential construction techniques and assemblies.
Austin’s design values rest heavily on creating sustainable spaces and environments that celebrate and tell the story of people with marginalized backgrounds.
Austin has a broad range of experience in adaptive reuse, historical renovation, and new Construction with a primary focus on Multifamily and Hospitality Projects. Austin is a Designer at Trapolin Peer Architects where she works on projects that are inspired by their environmental and cultural contexts.
As an architecture professional she strives to better understand and spread awareness on social and environmental issues. She has previously taught at University of Louisiana at Lafayette School of Architecture and Design. She is also a researcher for the Water Map New Orleans/ Water Map Bulbancha, a multimedia platform that builds towards a collective vision of what “living with water” looks like and expands upon environmental knowledge through both a digital and printed map. Aligning with her interests of supporting people of marginalized backgrounds and promoting equity within the Profession, she currently serves on the National Organization of Minority Architects – Louisiana Board.
Austin enjoys sketching and water coloring. She still finds joy exploring and learning the history surrounding buildings and neighborhoods. When the weather is cooler, she enjoys skating in Audubon park.
