Maya Alexander is the co-founder of Port Studio. This practice is not defined by one modality but is instead informed by the diverse backgrounds of Architecture, Interior Design, Construction, Furniture and Art History that her and co-founder, Nick Perrin, bring to the table.

The work of Port Studio ranges from small practical objects and furniture to historic renovations and new construction. Each project is approached with a sensitivity to place and user. In addition to her work with Port Studio, she is also a Senior Associate at MZ. Architecture and Design, an all-women architecture practice. At MZ., she manages full-scale renovations of historic residences as well as new builds set within the rich fabric of New Orleans.

She is keenly interested in the integrity of historic structures and how new technologies can usher these buildings into another century of life and inhabitants. In both roles, at Port Studio and MZ., she prides herself on attention to detail and care in designing and executing built works.

Her interest in historic architecture has been nurtured by the opportunity to live in the complex urban networks of New Orleans, Providence and New York City. She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Interior Design from Louisiana State University and a Master’s Degree in Architecture from Yale University.
