Liz Camuti, Assistant Professor in Landscape Architecture, has been elected to the Landscape Architecture Foundation (LAF) Board of Directors for the 2024-25 term, which officially kicked-off on October 4 during LAF's Annual Board Meeting in Washington DC. Chosen from nine new Directors bringing depth in both professional practice and academia, Camuti was elected to fill the open Director position representing the Olmsted Scholars. A graduate of the 2018 LAF National Olmsted Scholar program, she brings her continued commitment to pushing the field of landscape architecture forward.
The Landscape Architecture Foundation (LAF) is a nonprofit organization that supports landscape architecture through research, scholarships, and leadership initiatives. Since its founding in 1966, LAF has led the charge toward empowering landscape architects to address important environmental, social, and ecological issues, such as climate change, urbanization, and environmental justice.
LAF believes that development patterns must be reimagined to transform how society engages with the environment, resources, and each other. Landscape design—through the planning and organization of cities, communities, and outdoor spaces—plays a critical role in shaping this alternative future.
They are motivated to inspire and nurture the next generation of design leaders to create innovative solutions for the regeneration of natural systems that enhance quality for all life. Guided by this vision, LAF works toward bridging the gap between practice and research through its programs and initiatives to deepen the understanding of how landscape architecture addresses global challenges.
Getting involved with the Landscape Architecture Foundation provides a host of opportunities for students, professionals, academics, and those determined and concerned with landscape architecture and environmental stewardship. One can do this by taking part in the various programs LAF has to offer: from applying for scholarships to grants, or even being the recipient of the prestigious Olmsted Scholars Program that recognizes outstanding landscape architecture students. Professionals may contribute by attending various LAF events, from conferences and webinars down to the annual LAF Summit where leaders discuss novel solutions to global problems.
Individuals may also contribute to LAF's mission by providing a donation or becoming a sponsor, thus directly investing in research and leadership initiatives. Other opportunities include becoming a volunteer with activities ranging from community-based projects to advocacy or outreach.
Whether donating, sharing expertise, or attending events, anyone who believes in the power of landscape architecture to create positive change has the opportunity to be meaningfully involved in the work of LAF.
