Manol Gueorguiev

Adjunct Lecturer - Design

Manol is an artist, designer, and pedagogue working at the intersection of performance, installation, and the writing of history. As instructor of TuSA’s Design History courses, Manol brings in global historical examples and his own professional experiences working in art, graphic, and spatial design.

Manol’s teaching of design history builds on his experience in the contemporary art world

Manol’s professional experience includes work as an interior designer for Ligne Roset. His design work has also featured in projects by the Smart Museum of Art, the Chicago Field Museum, and the arts activism group Feel Tank Chicago, co-founded by the late Lauren Berlant. He has also worked in community-engaged design with refugees in Berlin.

Manol’s writings in art and design history are informed by study with design historian Victor Margolin at UIC. Manol’s art criticism, design history, and design work appear in ALL-OVER | Magazin für Kunst und Ästhetik (Basel/Vienna), the Konsthistorisk tidskrift/Journal of Art History (Stockholm), Art Institute Review (Chicago), and Design Issues.

Manol’s teaching of design history builds on his experience in the contemporary art world, including past performances and exhibitions at Links Hall (Chicago) and the Small Center for Collaborative Design (New Orleans). In his free time Manol is a master coffee roaster and amateur beekeeper, two activities where he seeks to incorporate design thinking processes.
