HYBRIDS: Urban Systems + Information
Marcella Del Signore
New trajectories in design strategies have emerged that benefit from digital tools as well as develop an understanding of the complex relationship between urban systems and information. The design process has evolved into a more complex and hybridized series of procedures that offer the possibility for integration between multiple media. This research provides a conceptual framework and a methodology for exploring digital tools in design strategies. In particular, the focus has been to develop a strategy in which the analytical information and data created through digital tools are able to inform a synergistic ANALOG:DIGITAL DESIGN PROCESSES .This approach has been explored in an Independent Research seminar taught with LSU and Harvard University_GSD in Spring 2008. The seminar asked students to develop a temporary installation at the New Orleans Riverfront focusing on the liminal condition that exists between the city and waters edge.

PITTER PATTER: magazines, maps and fast talk
Victor Jones
As we settle into the 21st century, architectural practices continue to wrestle with the role of digital design as an enabling device and sustainability as a value in architecture. Can digital technology go beyond its role as a tool for creating complex forms. Likewise, can sustainability shift from being performance driven to producing material effects? Pitter Patter examines the two schools of thought as they set industry standard, determining how architecture is conceived, produced and evaluated.
