News Felipe Correa (TSA ‘00) awarded third prize in competition

Somatic Collaborative, the architectural practice of Felipe Correa (TSA 00), in association with Leven Betts Architects was awarded third prize in the Magok Waterfront International Competition in Seoul, Korea, this past June.

The team’s proposal aims to establish an urbanistic operation that relies on the strategic rescaling of infrastructure, and the creation of botanical tissues of diverse scales, in order to re-qualify the site into an ecologically sound recreational landscape. More specifically, the project capitalizes upon the vast array of mobility networks that traverse the site, and proposes as its main organizational device an inter-modal connector that brings into the area a wide host of transport infrastructures, and enhances them with a varied brief that includes recreational ecologies, water-sports activities, retail space, research and development facilities, and a convention center. The project relies on the strategic location of Magok and its proximity to downtown Seoul in order to enhance an urbanistic project that establishes clear links to the city at large, and rendering Magok visible in relation to the other operations along the Han River.

Douglas Meffert, the Eugenie Schwartz Professor for River & Coastal Studies at Tulane University and a principal in Meffert + Etheridge Environmental Projects, served as the environmental consultant for the project.
