News Professor Victor Jones participates in DesCours.
DesCours is a free eight-day art event in which international artists and architects are invited to design and build installations to be experienced solely at night, in sights which are not usually made accessible to the public, such as French Quarter courtyards, Warehouse District building interiors, St. Roch properties and Canal Street storefronts. Professor Victor Jones was invited to participate, given his history of design and interior work through his firm, FievreJones, based in LA. The site, 1031 Annunciation, was a abandoned warehouse which created a unique set of parameters for the night installation. A collaboration between the AIA New Orleans, kk projects, and numerous patrons and organizations of the fine arts, the first annual DesCours sought to recognize international designers who could transform spaces with forward-thinking installations which respect and embrace New Orleans history of culture and the arts. The following is a brief prepared by Victor Jones on behalf of FievreJones for the DesCours press kit. -Alison Popper
SAFE
FievreJones
An installation situated in the dark void of an abandoned structure, SAFE seeks to temporarily resuscitate the dormant space through the construction of a diaphonous wrapper, made of photoluminous sheets, which redefines the spatial organization of the warehouse. The wrapper is defined by a vectoral pattern, stressing specific aspects of the building’s interior otherwise invisible to the naked eye. The effect is an audio-optical experience derived from the registration of a datum contrasting the industrial surface of the building.
