Former Hubig's Pie site soon to be home to condos

The former site of the Hubig's Pie fried pie factory is poised to become home to Baker's Row condominiums, in a transition from an old New Orleans classic to new real estate.

Hubig's Pie in Faubourg Marigny burned down nearly three years ago. Meanwhile, the site of the destroyed factory on Dauphine Street has remained vacant. 

"We saw an opportunity to take a piece of New Orleans' history and develop a respectful tribute in residential form," said developers Michael Bosio and Kyle Resmondo of MK RED in a statement. "Having both lived in New Orleans for several years, we love this neighborhood. The New Orleans real estate market is hot everywhere, including the Marigny."

MK RED has planned a $3.2 milion development with two, four-unit buildings, eight parking spots and a swimming pool at 2413-2417 Dauphine St. 

The City Planning Commission this week approved a conditional use allowing for a higher density residential development on the land. The approval was granted over the objections of one commissioner and some neighbors... Full Article
