Lecture Series: Rubén García Rubio and Sonsoles Vela

The lecture will be from 5:30 - 7 p.m., at Richardson Memorial Hall, Room 201, on Tulane's Uptown campus.

Assistant Professor Rubén García Rubio and Adjunct Assistant Professor Sonsoles Vela will present a lecture titled “Architecture and Urbanism: Constants and Variables”. The lecture will be focused on the work of their Spanish architecture firm studioVRA. During the session, Professors Garcia Rubio and Vela will explain their approach to architecture and urbanism and show some of their recent work.

Rubén García Rubio holds a Ph.D. in Architecture from the University of Valladolid (2016) and Ph.D. in Architecture from the University of Roma Tre (2016). He was a visiting scholar in the American Academy in Rome in 2012 and a professor in several schools of architecture in Europe and in several international institutions. Before coming to Tulane, he taught architecture at the American University in Dubai, UAE, where he was able to work on several university-projects that combined his teaching objectives, research interests, and professional work. In addition to his teaching role, Ruben is a practicing architect and is co-founder of studioVRA. He is also the Editor-in-Chief of the architectural weblog CajondeArquitecto.com.

Sonsoles Vela holds a BArch from the University of Valladolid, a Master of Science in Architecture and Sustainable Environment from the University of Extremadura, a Master`s Degree in Business Administration (MBA) from Kühnel Business School, and a Postgraduate Diploma in Advanced Design and Digital Architecture from the San Jorge University. Sonsoles is a practicing architect with more than 10 years of experience working alongside private clients and builders to develop architectural designs on residential, commercial, health care projects. Sonsoles is also a founder-partner of studioVRA.
