Design Symposium - “re/present: between pedagogy and practice”

Tulane School of Architecture Student Government

Symposium

The 2019 Architecture Student Government Design Symposium, titled “re/present: between pedagogy and practice” focuses on experimental, cutting-edge approaches to visualizing architecture both in the classroom and in the office. Our guests work on provocative, convention-defying, forward-thinking strategies to reimagine the architectural image, the forms it can take, and the roles it can play.

Architecture is often constructed as culminating in built form, yet architectural images are themselves discursively, aesthetically, and politically loaded productions. From developments in analog and digital image production techniques to new relationships among presenter, image, and audience, architectural representation is constantly evolving. The Symposium seeks to highlight architects and designers whose work interrogates the status of representation and the role of images within the discipline. In both pedagogy and practice, our guests challenge conventional rhetorics of architectural representation. Through lectures, panels, and workshops, they will share their fascinating and thought-provoking approaches.

The Tulane Architecture Student Government Design Symposium is an annual, student-curated series of lectures, workshops, and conversations addressing critical concerns of contemporary architecture. All events will take place in Richardson Memorial Hall and are free and open to the public. Pre-registration for lectures is encouraged and for workshops is required.
