Washington, DC and Philadelphia, PA
During the summer Field Study coursework, our students go to Washington DC and New York City to learn about the scale of development and the approaches to sustainability in these cities. These are memorable and significant trips for our students that are made possible by an impressive list of presenters and supporters, including the Forest City Ratner Companies, the General Services Administration, Living City Block, JBG Companies, the DC Office of Planning, the DC Department of the Environment, Canal Park Development Association, Bank of America Community Development Financing, FX Fowle Architects, Alloy Development, NeighborWorks, the National Building Museum, SORG Architects, Wiebenson and Dorman Architects, Bowman Consulting, PlaNYC, Silverstein Properties, the World Trade Center Organization, MDF Development, Ennead Architects, NYU Schack Institute, HR&A Advisors, Cooper Joseph Studio, Enterprise Community Partners and the New York and DC Housing Authorities and touched on neighborhoods in DC and New York including Southwest, Southeast, and the U Street corridor in the District of Columbia and the Bryant Park, Times Square, and the Downtown Manhattan and the Atlantic Yards and DUMBO areas of Brooklyn.
In the Fall semester, the students and faculty attend the ULI Fall Conference. As part of this travel, we tour projects in the surrounding area that are best practices in sustainable real estate development.
