"Coming Home to New Orleans: Neighborhood Rebuilding After Katrina"
Grass roots initiatives have been a prominent part of the rebuilding process in New Orleans. Based on the just published book, this talk will highlight problems in the civic and governmental recovery process, how community-based rebuilding efforts unfolded in several neighborhoods and what they were able to accomplish. It will also discuss broader lessons from New Orleans' experience for the role of grass roots initiatives and neighborhood scale rebuilding in the post-disaster recovery of cities.
